First Days After

Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020
I attending a beautiful Ash Wednesday Service at Trinity.  When I left at 7 pm, I called Melanie to check on Mother.  Melanie was just about to leave for her church's service and Nathaniel was sitting with Mother.  She has faded, day by day.  When Melanie got home, she checked on Mother and found no change.  When she went back in a few minutes later, Mother was no longer breathing.  What a blessing we count it that Mother was able to die peacefully in her bed at home with family.

Arrangements had been made and Melanie followed through with Hospice and the funeral home. Mother was to be cremated.

We settled on Saturday, March 7 for the memorial service to be held at Sunflower UMC per Mother's wishes.

I left on March 3 to help Melanie sort and get ready and to just be there with her.  There was not much to prepare since we had done as much as possible in advance. I was able to book a little cabin from Anne Labella for David's family.  Laura and Bill would come in the RV, with Laura staying at Park's and Bill & I plugging in at the cabin.

March 6 travelled to Sunflower, to Park's and met Bill & Laura there for supper.  David's family arrived a little later and we met them at the cabin.

March 7 service scheduled for 2 pm.  It was a beautiful service, well-attended but not crowded.  Several of mother's Farrar cousins came - Marsha and Butch from Atlanta, Julie & Janet from Tuscaloosa and Jay and his Katie & Little Jay from Jackson. Simon made it from Austin and Melanie's Jackson family.

After the services we gathered at Park and Cindy's for a wonderful family time, celebrating being together as Clara Nelle would have us do.

March 14-18 - Melanie came to Tennessee for a few days of relaxation.  As the coronavirus situation continued to get worse, she decided cut her visit short by a day to get home.  Good choice.
