The Journey Continues...Missouri Whitakers, June 25 - 28

Friday, June 25

Getting ready for the Missouri kids occupies all of this day. After a trip to the grocery store for supplies, I spent the afternoon baking, making Gluten-Free treats for the kids.   I made peanut butter (GF) cookies that everyone liked and GF granola bars that weren't bad.

Owen and Allison have been in VBS all week, so they couldn't start the thrip until that was over for the day.  The got here shortly after 8 pm.  We were all excited!  They had time to run around and have a substantial snack before bedtime.  Adults stayed up to watch Texas beat Miss State in the CWS.

Saturday, June 26

Of course Saturday morning required Nana's pancakes and sausage.  I am learning to make the gluten-free variety.  They are pretty good using Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free All-Purpose Flour in my regular recipe.  Pancakes were just the beginning of the fun!

At 11:30 we had a hearty snack and headed to the lake for a swim before it got too hot and crowded.  The whole Matzek gang met us there and joined the fun.

After a couple of hours of playing at the lake, we came home for a late lunch and some quiet time and a nap for John, Evangeline and David.  Bill arrange for Owen to drive the Bolt boy's mini-4wheeler.  That was on the list of activities that Owen was most looking forward to doing.  It was his favorite for the day. Allison helped me make some frozen yogurt, but in the end she didn't like it.  Too sour.

4-wheeling is serious business

We went to the Matzeks' house for pizza, campfire and s'mores.  Kids also enjoyed trampoline and petting the cats.  They have a great set-up for outdoor activities.

One of Amanda's more unusual hobbies is knife throwing!

Evangeline is always the star!

Beautiful setting!

It was a full, fun day but I was worn out! We ended the day with more baseball.  Miss State eliminated TX and will face Vanderbilt in the CWS finals.

Sunday, June 27

I made sure yesterday that I made enough pancakes and sausage for today as well.  Adults had biscuits and sausage (Mary B's frozen).  I got away for church on time.  The kids went to the Matzeks to play while David, Amanda & Mike went to Oak Ridge Country Club to play golf.  Amanda is a Jr. member there.

After church, Bill and I had lunch and some quiet time before Laura brought the kids back. I used some of that time to prep the ingredients for our supper - Taco Bar.  When Laura got here with the kids about 2, we learned that John had been sick to his stomach and he obviously did not feel good.  However, he went down for his nap as usual and the other kids played around the house and outside.

Later, the Matzeks joined us for the Taco Bar.  That is a meal that suits everyone's dietary requirements.  We ate inside, but then went out after it began to cool.  We decided to walk/bike up to the overlook so the kids could ride their bikes around the circle.  They had fun and we had fun watching them.

Monday, June 28

After more pancakes for breakfast, we took the kayaks to the lake so Owen could paddle for a while, with David. That activity was also high on Owen's list!  Bill, the kids and I sat in the shade and watched. After lunch, the kids and I met Claire and Amanda at the swimming area for another couple of hours of sun and sand while John napped.

We would not see the Matzeks tonight because Laura & Claire had trapeze class.  Grilled catfish was on the menu for adults tonight while the kids had quesadilla from left-over taco makings.  Tonight was the 1st game in the CWS finals between MS State and Vanderbilt.  Vandy scored 7 runs in the 1st inning in an 8-2 win.  I only lasted 4 innings.
